Choosing the Perfect Rug for Your Household | Osborne Park
This is a subtitle for your new post
There are so many varieties of rugs you could choose to fill your home. It’s not as simple as it sounds, however. Beyond the selection between modern or traditional rugs, you need to ensure that you pick the rugs that complement the other furnishings in your home.
When choosing your rugs, take into consideration the sofa, cushions, paintings, and other household items that make up your interior decor. Cohesion is key to bringing an overarching style to your interior decor; you need to strike the perfect balance between everything looking identical and everything looking mismatched.
Not sure where to start? Dive into this guide by the interior decor experts at Rugs of Elegance.
Colour
Colour is one of the most immediately apparent visual cues to keep an eye on. If your couch is a bold colour, such as dark red or black, and its cushions are a lighter colour such as grey, one idea is to get a rug in the same grey.
This will create a balance between the rugs and the cushions, bookending the couch to help it stand out.
Would you prefer that the rugs act as an accent? If you have subtle wallpaper, or couches and furniture in muted tones such as natural beiges, greys and off-whites, you can add a splash of colour with a rug in a bold hue that stands out against the monotone background.
Texture
A less-considered aspect of design than colour, texture is just as important in defining how aspects of interior decoration fit together.
Choose either the same or a complementary texture for the rugs to match the sofa, cushions, furniture and paintings. For example, cushions of a densely woven, heavy fabric would call for a rug of the same fabric and weave, while cushions of velvet or suede can be matched with a luxurious plush pile carpet, as they both speak to opulence and indulgence.
Motif
If you prefer to have a variety of colours and textures, a motif can instead be used to pull the interior decor together.
A matching motif is especially delightful when using traditional patterns and traditional rugs, as these are already designed to work together.
Another option is for patterns in the wallpaper to be repeated at the borders of a rug. Leaving it at the borders is enough! It’s critical to keep the motif subtle, otherwise it may become overwhelming.
The Subtle Art of Matching
Matching is a subtle art that can create stunning results. With some creative flair, you can pull together seemingly disparate items into a beautiful whole.
